My goal for this year, along with continuing to follow my diet, is to take up running. I've always been fascinated at the stamina of runners, but never really felt motivated enough to take it up until now. As mentioned previously, I've started out slowly... varying my usual workout to a combo of running and walking.
I read this great article called Running 101 that breaks down into a 10 week program to get you started. Seems simple enough, and is similar to what I've been doing so far (short bursts of running every few minutes). I'm starting this program tonight, since it's a more structured plan. Hopefully by the end of the 10 weeks I'll see improvements and be able to run 20 minutes solid, without passing out!
Just wanted to say that I am not a very good runner (i'm kinda short), but I really enjoy it. I only run about a mile or so, but a few years ago I joined a marathon training group. They taught a 10 week running program that helped you to adjust to running at long periods of time. I made it to running 13 miles, but because of knee problems I couldn't make the full 26. But the 10 week program is a great way to get started. Just try not to get too discouraged. If you are having trouble moving to the next week, just do that same week over again. Going at your own pace, but learning when to push yourself is key...
Good luck! I can't wait for the weather to warm up so I can start running again!
