geez, i haven't done one of these in a long time...
friday five
1. what is your favorite type of literature to read (magazine, newspaper, novels, nonfiction, poetry, etc.)? i love to read fiction... fave genre are those "single girl" books... british or otherwise. i like magazines for the quickness, though.
2. what is your favorite novel? hiroshima by john hersey -- which is actually nonfiction (i read it for a "journalism as literature" class in college.)
3. do you have a favorite poem? (share it!) sonnet 130 by william shakespeare... i made a post about this last month
4. what is one thing you've always wanted to read, or wish you had more time to read? honestly? the bible... not for religious reasons necessarily, but just to be more familiar with it. i was required to take "bible 101" (or something like that) in college. i didn't learn much because the professor who taught it made us do a heck of a lot of additional reading and papers, and it was too overwhelming to actually absorb and appreciate anything. i think i barely passed the class...
5. what are you currently reading? nothing. i picked up not so funny when it happened (traveler's tales guides) last night to read, but didn't get past the introduction... too distracted by the disaster that was bruce willis hosting dave letterman...
I love sonnet 130 too—even more now that I've heard the sublime Alan Rickman reading it. I love his voice! If you're interested, he reads it on a spoken word/music compilation called When Love Speaks. Actually, if you love hearing British actors reading Shakespeare, it's a great buy.
Posted by: lori at March 13, 2003 04:04 PMit's extremely cheesy, but i first heard sonnet 130 on an episode of "my so-called life" back in high school. i thought it was such a powerful play on words and meaning that i instantly fell in love with it.
oooh... yum, a cd full of british actors speaking... (sigh) sounds lke something good! :)
