while reading dooce.com, i was reminded of my senior quote in the yearbook... (although, i couldn't remember it at first and had to go searching for it.)
anyway... my quote was as follows:
"... he said, 'but the journey is a hard road and you may be afraid.' and she laughed and said 'no road could be too hard for I am fearless.'"
god... how serious. at the time i remember really believing and feeling that way, fearless, of what was ahead.
turns out, i was mortified at the thought of moving an hour and a half away from home, starting a new and challenging college and knowing that the only people i had to do this all with were my two roommates, whom deep down i wasn't sure i wanted to live with.
i've graduated from said college and moved again (and again)... and, after all was said and done, i still wouldn't use that quote to go beside my photo. even now.
I don't think we had quotes like that in my high school yearbook. good thing!
When my journal wasn't on hiatus, I did like picking an apposite quotation for each entry. Sometimes it expressed that day, sometimes it just happened to contain a word that I'd used (I picked after I wrote). At least I only had to consider one day, not something emblematic of me in the long term.
