so, i've seen lots of people doing the friday five, so i thought i'd give it a whirl...
1. what's your favorite tv show, and why? right now, i'm addicted to watching changing rooms and ground force on bbc america. i'm tired of seeing the same trading spaces every day, so changing rooms is the same thing but in smaller doses and they're new to me. ground force... i wish i could be charlie, the "water feature expert." and alan... he's just so teddy-bear cute, and he's got that great dry british sense of humor.
2. who's your favorite television star? currently? i don't know if she's a tv star, but i love that little osborne girl from "the osbornes," kelly. she's really funny. i wish i had her hair. what is it with these brits? ;)
3. what was your favorite tv show as a child? i liked "webster" and a show on nickelodeon called "pinwheels," i think. mister rodger's was always a good one too. i really liked our local children's show "grunches and grins" b/c of the mystical forest scenes they'd take the kids to on occasion. not to mention, i was also on the show once with three of my friends when we were in the first grade.
4. what show do you think should have been cancelled by now? this one's easy: er.
5. what new show do you hope escapes the axe this season? unfortunately, i think it's already a victim... but i really loved "the american embassy" on fox. it was based in london (sigh) and the main girl was just so adorable. i really honestly enjoyed watching it the few times it came on.
I was on Grunches & Grins too... Fast foward to senior year in high school... Another guy and I were bored in 1st period Physics class, so we started a rumor to see how long it would take to get back to us. The rumor:
"Did you know that Miss Sara, host of kid's show GRUNCHES & GRINS was arrested for a DUI?"
I think it made it back to me by 6th period that same day. :)
Posted by: jca at April 19, 2002 01:13 PMthat's really mean...
i had a broken arm when i was on, and that scary little puppet that was miss sara's side kick couldn't get over my cast. it kept asking us if our white socks were casts too. freak.
Posted by: Michelle at April 19, 2002 01:52 PMAn Insider's comment. :)
I took over Miss Sara's position. She retired a year or two ago. She is still involved in storytelling throughout the area.
Miss Patty was the person who was behind the scenes doing the puppet Tyro - an extraterrestrial from outer space. She died of cancer a few years back.
Posted by: Lee Anne at May 14, 2002 07:58 AMI know this is a really old thread ...but i stumbled upon it looking up grunches and grins....I was on that show too if its the same one were talking bout in the mid 80's Huntsville Alabama? I was on it with three other people for a few episodes including some Christmas ones where they took us to some giant christmas store or something hit me back if anyone ever reads this. That puppet was scary :)
Posted by: Clay at October 24, 2002 02:18 PMMy sister and I just typed in the search words "Grunches and Grins" and this is the only thing that popped up. We were also on the show and we were too excited! I really hate to hear about Tyro. I wonder if there is any way of getting copies of those shows. Keep on grunchin' and grinnin'!
Posted by: Jarod at November 4, 2002 09:34 AMYeah...what the hell IS a "grunch"?
Posted by: freakgirl667 at November 6, 2002 08:37 AMdoes anyone know how to get a copy of the "grunches and grins" show? i also was on it as a child, but i missed getting to see the episode when it aired.
Posted by: karla at December 15, 2002 10:33 PMI wasn't on Grunches and Grins, but remember watching it and loved it.
Posted by: LeAnn at December 26, 2002 06:43 PMOsbornes ?? This show sux, and any true Punk band
would never be on MTV. What a joke ?? Just goes
to show(like that fat pig Anna Nicole) that money
is all you need. The last thing any osborne did
was Ozzy back in the 1980's....Please...Kelly Osborne couldn't sing her way outta a paper bag.
The only funny thing about this show, is when
Ozzy tries to tell his kids not to party, when
Sharon Ozborne thinks she knows what songs/groups
are the next big thing ( I think she forgot how
many record companies passed on Black Sabbath...all
of them!!!) And those dogs that keep crapping
on their expensive stuff...>That is funny!
There show is going bye bye...CNN just reported
that their viewers used to be like 6 mill, now
down to 3 mill...Bye Bye !!! the sooner the better. I will stick with my sabbath VINYL
I just figured out afeter YEARS of searching what the theme song was to grunches and grins...
It's called AfroCat by Richard C. Saunders (sanders?)
It's been plagueing me since youth...as a young weirdo in Alexander City, AL
Scarred but smarter,
Jason
Posted by: jason at August 30, 2003 02:57 AMI, too, was on "Grunches & Grins". I was on a Halloween themed show. Miss Sara, or, Sara McDaris, read a story about pumpkin heads.
I also remember this day, because, my friend, Matthew, had a birthday, and Miss Sara led us in singing, "Happy Birthday", to Matthew.
Posted by: Jeff at September 1, 2004 08:14 PMI was on Grunches and Grins as a kid, then I worked there in high school as a cameraman for the show, I remember both Miss Sara and Miss Patty, (hint she was also the fairy in the forrest, if you catch one of those episodes)
I really loved working there, and it was great for kids, but it was a lot of work.
I was also on the show. I missed seeing the episode I was on, due to a terrible thunder storm and the power went out!
I remember being dissapointed not being able to go into the forest on the show I was lucky enough to be on.
I am thinking of looking into seeing if I could order the episode I was on....does anyone know if they have it archived by date only, not sure that I can remember that. Glad to hear the Grunches and Grins was adored by so many kids! Maybe they should bring it back!
I went online to find the Afrocat song by Richard C. Saunders and it doesn't sound like the Grunches and Grinches theme song....anyone else have any clue?
Posted by: rachael at June 22, 2005 11:41 AMhow cool... i was just talking to a buddy about old 70's tv - hr puffinstuff, sigmund and the sea monsters, the curiosity shop, etc. - and decided to do a search for grunches and grins. we both grew up in huntspatch, btw. neither of us were on the show, but i met "miss sarah, at the library", at the old library, and my buddy went to hear her read at that little bitty library that used to be in the kmart parking lot. i just called the library to find out if miss sarah still had the storyline you could call. it's gone >sigh<
