Magazine Covered Canisters

1. i started by carefully tearing full pages out of magazines like real simple, martha stewart living and kids, jane... just about any magazine that was old and ready to be tossed.

i looked for nice colors and pages with lots of color on them, especially around the edges of the paper.

2. take a page and roll it diagonally from opposite corner to opposite corner. i used a pencil to roll on, which helped to keep my rools tight and uniform in size.

3. when you reach the opposite corner, apply a little bit of glue to the flap and press gently to your roll. if you put too much glue and it runs, don't worry -- just smear it along the corner you glued down to help seal it on the outside.

4. when you have accumulated enough magazine rolls, start applying them to your canister. run glue along the length of the canister for a couple inches and apply the rolls.
5. after you have worked your way around the entire canister wrap something around the top and bottom to hold the rolls in place. i let mine dry over night, lying on it's side.

6. i used an x-acto, in a sawing motion, to remove the bottom portion of the magazine rolls. i made it even with the bottom of the canister.

you can repeat this process for the top but i left mine jagged.

note: next time i'll probably go ahead and cut the rolls to size because sawing off the jagged edges was a little awkward and difficult.

7. i removed the string and covered the entire outside of the canister in a layer or mod podge. i left it to dry overnight again.

8. with the parts of magazine rolls that i cut off the bottom of the canister, i cut to size to fit on my second canister and repeated the whole process again.
