Holiday (post)Cards 2004

1. This is a flat version of my Holiday Cards for this year. I decided on making postcards -- mainly because last year it was a major hassel to find good envelopes that I liked and were the correct size for my handmade cards. I also had a roll of stamps for postcards that I wanted to get rid of.

2. I used Illustrator to draw some snowflakes and made duplicates at various sizes. I settled on a blue and white color theme.

On any postcard I do, the return address is the divider between the spot for your message and the spot for the recipient's address.

3. Fonts used: Gill Sans, cause it's my favorite san serif, for the return address text (which isn't blurry on the real deal). "Ma Sexy" from dafont for the front "Happy Holidays."

4. I printed out my cards on Avery "ink jet postcards" with perforated edges.

5. To add some depth and contrast, I used a Pentel Metallic Gel Roller pen in green to fill in spaces around the colored snowflakes. I like the effect they make -- looked like metallic foil inserts. Below is a before and after. (In person, the color is more obvious and has a shimmer to it.)

6. After the ink was dry, I folded the cards in half and glued the backs together to finish my post card!
