Knit Baby Blanket 2

1. I wanted to try out something different with this blanket, so I picked a checkerboard pattern.

2. Checkerboard is achieved by doing alternating blocks of knit stitch and purl stitch.
3. For this blanket I decided to have a garter stitch border of 5 stitches on the left and right sides of the blanket. I worked 7 rows of garter stitch to complete the top and bottom edges of the border. Each individual square is 20 stitches wide and 23 rows high. Each section wasn't perfectly square.

4. Since this was knit for a baby that was being adopted from Russia, he will be almost 12 months old by the time he comes to his new home. For that reason, I made the blanket a little bigger than typical. The finished size measured 44" x 47".

The yarn I used was Bernat Denim Style in Stonewash. I held two strands together.
