a photo of my 1st knit baby blanket in progress. it has a garter stitch border in yellow and a blue center done in "tube knitting" to create a double layer. the yarn is super soft and i'm maybe 2/3rds done. more details when i'm finished.

it's time for the neighborhood church's annual festival this weekend. that means screaming kids riding unsafe carnival contraptions, carnies on the loudspeaker that echos down the alley to our window and the loud tear down on sunday night that lasts until the wee morning hours. yahoo.

just over three months, and i've lost 25 pounds. i've got a pretty good grasp on the diet and have been relying on other recipes for dinner. (i've found a lot of really good ones to try from everyday food.) just this week, the new south beach diet cookbook came out. i've looked through it and am excited at the prospect of so many new recipes to try. the ones in the original book were good and easy, and the cookbook version follows suite. it will be nice to have something different to add to the menu.
we hadn't cheated at all on the diet, until yesterday. jon's bday celebration involved eating what he wanted, and that included sandwiches for lunch and pizza for dinner. after eating i didn't think, "oh my god i have missed this!" well, the only thing i did really miss was the convenience of it. but, i'll have no problem going back to living without it. so i guess that's the best thing!
in other news... cravings have been replaced with sugarfree gum. and, it's not exactly a craft project, but i found a new use for cd spindle cases:

in the past day, i have read two different references to bikes being dredged from the canals of amsterdam.
"in addition..., around 10,000 bikes ... are lifted from the canals every year."
what is up with that? why are bikes finding their way to the bottom of the canals?

customize your pens with this quick and easy idea. this isn't exactly a ground-breaking craft discovery, but fun nonetheless.
