this state is falling apart. an action star is the governor-elect, the grocery stores are striking, and now the buses are too...
today i made my third grocery store visit this week. the first stop, at von's, resulted in me not even getting out of my car b/c the strikers were stopping shoppers on their way into the store. so, i drove to ralph's. strikers were at the front doors, but fortunately they were not stationed at the elevators underground in the parking garage -- so i managed to get inside without incident, but they had crap selection so i didn't get everything on my list. so, this afternoon i ventured off to a different and new (to me) store, gelson's. this chain must be the only large grocery store not striking, because i swear everyone in the valley was shopping there. hardly any parking and you could barely make it down the aisle without having to wait and let someone pass. at least i got most of what i needed.
maybe everything will get back to normal sometime soon...
Isn't it awful? I have Ralphs and Gelsons in my town and I mostly go to Ralphs. I know a lot of the cashiers there, so I won't pass the picket line. Gelson's is so crowded now, I had to park at a meter. Gelson's, as you know, is much more expensive, but it's so close, I don't feel like driving anywhere else. Strangely, even though it was packed, I didn't wait long to check out.
We did do a big Trader Joe's run the week before in preparation, but I didn't expect the strike to last this long.
Yes, let's hope things get as normal as they can soon.
The only LA stores striking are Ralph's, Albertsons, Vons/Pavillions. Gelsons, Whole Foods, Wild Oats, Trader Joe's, Food-4-Less, Super A and Wal*Mart Super Markets are strike-free, though wretchedly crowded. I don't know which of these chains are available in the Valley, but here in the San Gabriel Valley all of these stores are operating normally.
