haven't been round in a long time. here's a semi-update: in the past week i've acquired a "job" of sorts (although, i'm not sure you could really call it that) -- as a paid audience member. yes, paid. it's done through a temp agency and one of their clients is in charge of making sure there are people to fill seats at (less popular) sit-com tapings. easy money and only takes up, at most, four hours. so far i've seen a taping of "yes, dear" and "good morning miami."
you know how those "queer eye for the straight guys" are everywhere now and kind of teetering on the edge of annoying over-exposure? well, last night's taping of "good morning miami" featured a guest spot by the queer eye guys and even had one of the regular characters saying a line with the word "tjuzing" in it (i really hate that word).
oh, and i got an email from martha stewart a couple weeks ago. well, not her but one of her worker bees, asking for my permission to print a question of mine in the october issue of msliving. the question is about silpats and will be in the "ask martha" section. i had posted the question months and months ago on the martha stewart forums, and was kind of thrown off when i got the email asking for my name and city information. (i had to go search for my question because i didn't remember what it was exactly.) i hope it gets printed!
So what was the Silpat question? Just curious....
Posted by: dayment at August 25, 2003 01:35 PMthe question was how to properly clean it. i've got two and i wash them in warm water and soap and they always feel sticky afterwards. then, i read somewhere that you weren't even supposed to clean them! so... i got all confused and posted the question to the martha stewart forums... but never really got an answer.
Posted by: Michelle at August 25, 2003 10:33 PMYeah, we just wipe them off with a towel. I think soap makes them "tacky."
Posted by: dayment at August 27, 2003 12:24 PMmaybe mine are just going to stay sticky... i've tried both ways, with and without soap, so who knows.
Posted by: Michelle at August 27, 2003 03:57 PMHiya Michelle,
So tell us, where either of the episodes you saw funny?
I have to say I watched one episode each of both those shows and am amazed they came back for second seasons.
How were the warm-up guys?
I'd love to be able to do that job. Do they need any more people?
hey ellen:
well, the shows were mediocre funny... typical of what you probably saw on the shows when you watched them. although, apparently the writers of "will & grace" are working on "good morning" now, and the new addition of tiffani theisen on the show is way too similar to grace's character on "w&g." so, it seems like they are trying to apply their style into "gmm" or something.
i'm not going to say i didn't laugh. i did, but not enough to convince me that i'd enjoy watching the shows on a regular basis! you know?
the warm up guys... standard issue. lots of audience participation. the guy at "gmm" was a lot more fun and casual that the other one at "yes dear."
as far as the job, i don't know if they are still accepting people -- i'm calling tomorrow so i can ask, and i'll let you know. :)
Posted by: Michelle at August 29, 2003 01:02 AMI used to go to a lot of tapings, because I had friends who worked on sitcoms. Now of course, with all this reality stuff, there are way fewer jobs for writers.
Thanks for the scoop on those shows. Sometimes it's much funnier watching them do it than actually watching the finished product.
Did you get that warmup guy who hypnotized people?
I still can't figure out if it's real or not.
There was also a juggling guy who was outrageous.
The other guys who were diluted standups were okay. It's not an easy job.
Hey again Ellen! I just sent you an email about the job.
I agree it's definitely funnier watching the actors trying to get down a line than what you see on tv. Blooper reels at movies are always so funny! :)
I did see a guy doing hypnosis -- it's really bizarre and I'm like you, can't figure out if it's real or fake. The guy who was hypnotized did some really bizarre stuff, that even the most outgoing person wouldn't do, I don't think. Very curious...
It's definitely not an easy job to entertain that many people for that amount of time, especially when the tapings are going a little long! But, without them, it'd be even harder to sit in the audience.
