i'm not quite sure if i should be upset over the apparently deprived childhood experience of this old campfire standard, "the fast food song," recently being sung by (who else) the fast food rockers (and, apparently the song is a HUGE hit over in the UK right now). this song is annoyingly catchy, along the lines of the "ketchup song," but i cannot for the love of god stop listening to it.
and, in case you're worried about a song talking/promoting fast food, need not worry. the fast food rockers are not only pop stars, they're good nutrition ambassadors too! yep, i'd take someone who looks like this seriously...
"Whilst brands are in the chorus of the Fast Food Song, the Fast Food Rockers are also keen to promote healthy eating and, when touring, will be raising the issue of healthy alternatives to fast food. Fast Food Rockers are not promoting fast food, they are promoting a catchy poppy song, with an infectious and easy to learn dance. As far as nutrition is concerned they will be ensuring that their audiences are left in no doubt as to the importance of healthy eating. The group also hope that their appearances will serve as a catalyst and encourage people to discuss diet."

i did this craft project a long time ago, but am just now getting around to mentioning it. i took pages from a magazine and rolled them up, then stuck them on the outside of empty canisters. how i did it, here.

my parents' garden was in full bloom while i visited last month. i took well over two-hundred photos of various flowers all around the yard. this is one of the several daylilies in the front yard. i love the colors of this one in particular.

jodi has this great story up (on her other site) called "don't overshoot your headlights." it's just such good advice to keep in mind... go read it.

i have decided that i love fresh asparagus. the first time i tried them, last week, i just threw them in a pan with a small pool of water and covered them for about six minutes. then threw in a pat of margarine. yummy. last night, i baked them and sprinkled a little bit of salt over them. good stuff.

in a fit of craftiness, i took an empty jelly jar that had a nice shape and decoupaged some tissue paper onto it. it's a very economical project -- uses hardly any tissue paper (just a few inches worth probably), an old, clean jar and some decoupaging medium. it took maybe fifteen minutes to complete.
this isn't anything new, but i'll tell you how i did it anyway. i took strips of pink and yellow tissue paper, crumpled them up and tore them into small pieces. then, covered a section of the jar with the glue and placed a piece of tissue paper down and brushed more glue over the top of that. then, i laid the next piece on and went over it with more glue... repeated until the entire jar was covered, then i went over it again with another layer of glue. where i overlayed the pink on yellow (or vice-versa) is a nice orange color. i dropped a tea light in and lit it up, nice suttle glow.
the result is neat, but i'm not overly impressed. i think next time i will cut out an image and add it along with the tissue paper for something more interesting. or, make my tissue paper pieces much smaller than i did this time.

on the fourth of july, there's at least five separate fireworks displays potentially visible from the rooftop of this building. to the left, somewhere near warner brothers/toluca lake is the best view. to the right, cbs/studio city is the second best view. hidden by trees, but somewhat visible over their tops, are universal studios and the hollywood bowl. and, heard but not viewable from my vantage point, is burbank.
so, friday night i headed to the rooftop and waited for the sky to light up. with my head turning from right to left to catch two shows going on simultaneously, i was excited... but after maybe 15 to 20 minutes of slow, sporadic bursts of color from each direction, the big finale came and fourth of july was officially done. sad, but true. even the other three displays that i could barely see or hear didn't appear too spectacular. wonder why?
anyway, here's a re-enactment of my fourth of july, from right to left and back again...
