1. what are your hobbies? crocheting, learning to knit, cooking, travel (although not often enough)
2. do you collect anything? if so, what? lapel pins of all kinds. i bought my first one at the memphis farmer's market (at least i think that's what that damn thing was called); it was a guitar pin for the band journey. i used to keep my collection on my fashionable guess?(tm) jacket that i wore in the 5th - 6th grades. now my collection is so large, that my jacket weighs upwards of 50 pounds and the entire front and sleeves are covered!
3. is there a hobby you're interested in, but just don't have the time/money to do? i'd really love to learn how to fly a plane, have wanted to for a long time. i wish i was focused enough to do tasteful scrapbooking projects. i wish i could travel more. i wish i had access to a potter's wheel, like i did in college.
4. have you ever turned a hobby into a moneymaking opportunity? no, but i've often thought of selling my pottery.
5. do you belong to any clubs? none, really. if i'd make the effort, i'd join my sorority's alumni group.

well, hopefully this is working correctly. i've adjusted some values and am hoping this page is the same for you as it is for me (journal to the left, links/calendar to the right).

quidnunc.org is currently experiencing some technical difficulties... if the text is all wonky on your screen (for example, it's either being cut off at the bottom of the page or just stretching all across the screen overlapping my links) -- i'm mostly aware of it. basically, if you use windows you aren't seeing this the way you should be. i'm working to resolve it. should be back to normal soon. i hope.

happy birthday to you!

so, i've seen lots of people doing the friday five, so i thought i'd give it a whirl...
1. what's your favorite tv show, and why? right now, i'm addicted to watching changing rooms and ground force on bbc america. i'm tired of seeing the same trading spaces every day, so changing rooms is the same thing but in smaller doses and they're new to me. ground force... i wish i could be charlie, the "water feature expert." and alan... he's just so teddy-bear cute, and he's got that great dry british sense of humor.
2. who's your favorite television star? currently? i don't know if she's a tv star, but i love that little osborne girl from "the osbornes," kelly. she's really funny. i wish i had her hair. what is it with these brits? ;)
3. what was your favorite tv show as a child? i liked "webster" and a show on nickelodeon called "pinwheels," i think. mister rodger's was always a good one too. i really liked our local children's show "grunches and grins" b/c of the mystical forest scenes they'd take the kids to on occasion. not to mention, i was also on the show once with three of my friends when we were in the first grade.
4. what show do you think should have been cancelled by now? this one's easy: er.
5. what new show do you hope escapes the axe this season? unfortunately, i think it's already a victim... but i really loved "the american embassy" on fox. it was based in london (sigh) and the main girl was just so adorable. i really honestly enjoyed watching it the few times it came on.

jamie oliver, the naked chef, is a new dad. am i the only one who thought he just got married a few months ago? turns out, he's been married for two years. (air dates of his show in america are off by about a year and a half, apparently.)

all of my domains have been undergoing a move to a new host or server or something... i'm working on updating all links and making sure everything is in proper working order.
bear with me while i work out all the kinks. i hope to have everything straight in a day or so.

this morning, i watched the re-broadcast of the queen mother's funeral. well, i fast forwarded through most of it. mainly i caught a few parts of the service and a few parts of them driving toward windsor castle.
i was excited to see them turning down cromwell road on their way to the castle. the processional went right through south kensington/gloucester road -- where i went to school for a little while. ahh, memories.
my favorite thing said, though, at westminster abbey was this poem, written by an unknown author:
or you can smile because she has lived.
or you can open your eyes and see all she's left."
i think that's a real lovely thing to have said about you.

i've been changing quidnunc.org to a new blogging service (from blogger to movable type) and here it is. i'm still working on it, and will continue to do so for the next few days. i need to make a logo to go at the top of the page, so you at least know where you are.

every year, i always complain in particular about this time switch. gaining an hour of sunlight isn't my idea of a good time. it annoys me that it's still daylight at like 8 pm. that's just wrong.
anyway, here's a really excellent article that explains the history, logic (yes, logic) and advantages of losing an hour of sleep tonight.

no, you are not witness to an april fool's joke... i'm in the process of transferring my weblog to a new program -- therefore, this temporary look will be up for a little while until i am able to re-design it.
